People tell me all the time, “I’ll try my best!” That frequently becomes an excuse. As a leader you need to ask three questions to staff.
1. Can they do it or can’t they?
2. Do they want to do it or not?
3. Are they capable of doing it?
Each answer will determine whether the right skills, right desire, and right ability is there.
Sometimes the best thing you can to for an employee is to guide them to a position that will allow them to do their best.
